The Story So Far

Hey, I’m gio!

Before anything else, I’m a husband to a 'too-hot-for-teacher science professor’ of a wife, and a dad to a ‘way smarter than I ever was’ son.

That’s the part of my life I’m most proud of. It’s also the part that shapes how I think about everything else. I love what I do, but I don’t measure my life by it. I care about being present, being dependable, doing work I’m proud of, and still having time to BBQ outside with my family.

I design and build digital things for a living: websites, emails, products, platforms, campaigns, and systems. I’ve spent most of my career somewhere between design, development, and strategy, which usually means I’m the person trying to make complicated things make sense.

I didn’t take a straight path into this career. I learned by building things, breaking them, and making them better. I’ve always focused on how people actually behave, not how I hope they will. That mindset still shapes how I approach problems today.

I don’t chase trends. I don’t care about sounding impressive in meetings. I care about clarity. I like systems that are easy to use. I like design that respects people’s time. I like systems and brands that feel like they’re run by humans that use them, instead of the committees that approve them.

These days, a lot of my work is about helping teams do great work together: mentoring designers and developers, creating systems that scale, and setting direction without hovering. I still like staying close to the work, though; getting my hands dirty is where I feel most comfortable. I like knowing how things are actually built, not just how they’re presented.

I’m usually at my best when I’m solving messy problems. You know, the kind where design, product, marketing, and development all overlap and nobody quite agrees on where the edges are. That’s usually where the interesting work likes to hide.
